Curiosity killed the cat…satisfaction brought it back…

Without curiosity we’d never have figured out where the biscuit tin was…

…but somehow we get less curious as we get older – when actually we might miss out on some even more important things than biscuits…

(PS There are more important things than biscuits. Yes, really there are)

CURIOSITY WILL CONQUER FEAR EVEN MORE THAN BRAVERY WILL ~JAMES STEPHENS

Here are four situations for you, think about how you usually react to them…

1) When you make a mistake do you ‘beat yourself up’?
2) When you’re afraid of what might happen next, do you stay in your comfort zone instead of moving ahead?
3) When you’re nervous about an event do you imagine the worst?
4) When you wonder where you went wrong do you decide you have no talent and decide not to try again?

If you answered yes to any one of these, the next question is:
Did that make you feel energised or make you feel down?

One of the most powerful tools we have – and one of the most under-used – is Curiosity
Here are some ways in which you can use it to;

Feel better, more energised and motivated
Avoid causing yourself more stress with your own reactions
Open up a whole host of new opportunities
Move forward when you feel stuck
Give yourself a day off from the negatives!

WHY IS CURIOSITY SO POWERFUL?

Curiosity…wonder…inquisitiveness…interest…fascination

Creates possibilities
Unlocks creativity
Means you dare to go beyond old limits
Opens us up to new learning
Means new things can now happen
There is no right or wrong, just interesting

TOP TIPS

1) When you make a mistake – BRING ON THE CURIOSITY “Oh that’s interesting, I wonder why that happened?”

2) When you’re afraid of what might happen next – BRING ON THE CURIOSITY “What wonderful things might this bring, what would I like to get out of this?”

3) When you’re nervous about an event – BRING ON THE CURIOSITY “I wonder how this might go really well, what are the best things that could happen?”

4) When you wonder where you went wrong – BRING ON THE CURIOSITY “That’s interesting, I seem to still have something to learn, I wonder how I could do it better next time?”

I WONDER…WHAT MIGHT HAPPEN…?

Remember childhood curiosity…
Put it in your mouth and decide if it’s edible, tasty, hard or soft… ..broccoli or banana! Babies are all about adventure and finding out:
Put in your mouth
Walk there
Roll down a hill
Pull it and see what happens!

They have a carefree exploration of the world.
Yes there are dangers, we need to be there for them because they haven’t yet learnt what’s safe and what’s not.

As adults we hold ourselves back as if we don’t know how to keep ourselves safe.

YOU DO know how to keep yourself safe, in so many ways, don’t you?

Remember this really important truth:

WE ALL DO THE BEST WE CAN WITH WHAT WE HAVE AT THE TIME

If you haven’t got the knowledge, tools, awareness, ability, well maybe you could look at developing them.
There is no point in beating yourself up for doing the best you could with the tools you had at the time.
The next question is: How can I get what I need to do it better next time?

I WONDER WHAT WOULD HAPPEN IF YOU JUST

…let yourself try
…let yourself off the hook for a change
…gave yourself some encouragement for a change
…believed that you could
…started today with something easy
…just made the change…

SOME INSPIRATIONAL QUOTES

If you need any more motivation to develop your curiosity, read what the big thinkers think about it…

I think, at a child’s birth, if a mother could ask a fairy godmother to endow it with the most useful gift, that gift should be curiosity. ~Eleanor Roosevelt

Curiosity is the very basis of education and if you tell me that curiosity killed the cat, I say only the cat died nobly. ~Arnold Edinborough

I have no special talents. I am only passionately curious. ~Albert Einstein

Curiosity will conquer fear even more than bravery will. ~James Stephens AND MY FAVOURITE:
Curiosity is little more than another name for Hope. ~Augustus William Hare and Julius Charles Hare

Let’s all hope for better,
with much love, until next time

SATORI AND THE CONFIDENCE PROJECT

The Confidence Project is going from strength to strength. Here are a few of the things delegates are saying about their experience…

“I started the day tired and with a headache I’ve had for 3 days, now my headache’s gone and I feel energised and ready for anything”
“I thought my stress level was never going to change until I had less pressure at work, now I realise I can feel better no matter what comes my way”
“I’ve learnt some simple yet amazingly powerful things, everyone should have the chance to learn these techniques”
“I was so worried about my presentation next week, it was making me feel ill, now I can’t wait, it’s so exciting!”
